Gregorian chant, which is a type of plainsong,
is central to the musical tradition of Europe in the Medieval era. Chant
survived and prospered in monasteries and religious centres throughout the
chaotic years of the early middle ages, for these were the places of
greatest stability and literacy.
Here is a list of British songs, some of
which sing about medieval times, events, or the British empire,
some have nothing to do with the Medieval period at all :)- but are topical
so included.
