Royal Standard (Flags)

There are no hard and fast rules about flying flags in Britain, however there are old established customs, and some rulings from around the time of the turn of the last century which have not yet been undone.

Recently with the world cup :)- Some taxi drivers have had to fight to be allowed to fix flags to their cabs, school pupils have been threatened with a ban on carrying flags and people flying flags from buildings warned to keep within advertising laws.

The Union flag should be flown on Government Buildings from 8am until sunset. :) I've never seen them take them down. Individuals, local authorities and other organisations may fly the Union flag whenever they wish, subject to compliance with any local planning requirements.
