Medieval places of interest, Shakespeare’s birthplace

Shakespeare was born and grew up in a smallish town called Stratford, in 1564. He had four surviving siblings, and his father (John) was a well-off craftsman and merchant. We have very little information on Shakespeare’s mother (Mary Arden), though we do know she came from an ancient family and was heiress to some land.

During the early years of Shakespeare’s life, his dad was a prominent citizen who held governmental posts in Stratford and purchased land, though he seems to have fallen on hard times during Shakespeare’s teenage years.
