Cerdd
Dant, Sting Instrument
The Crwth is a medieval bowed lyre and one of Wales’s most traditional
instruments. It has 6 strings and a flat bridge.
The gut strings produce a soft purring sound, the
melody is played on four of the six strings, with the other two acting as
plucked or bowed.
There is archaeological evidence to suggest that
similar instruments were in use 5,000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia and
Egypt.
