Hedge Rows, Blue Tits

A closer inspection reveals bright blue wings, tail and crown, yellow under parts, greenish back and mantle, white cheeks, and black eye stripe, bib and collar.

This star performer produces a lovely trilling song and is very clever as well with a reputation for drinking from milk bottles left on the doorstep.

According to the British Trust for Ornithology the front of a blue tit's head glows under ultra violet light. As birds see in UV it's thought that this is how females choose a partner.

In the winter of 1970-71 , blue tits were seen 5.3 times on average in British gardens every week, according to the BTO. Last winter, they were spotted just 3.1 times.
