Samhain, in Wales it is Nos Calan Gaeaf, the eve of the winter's calendar, or first.  The winter eve massacre !

Which in itself sounds a bit gruesome, the reason is that after the harvest moon it was also a time that animal stock would be slaughtered to supply the meat for the winter months.

So on the eve of winter, the combined calibration of caseg fedi and the stored harvest, together with the slaughtered animals, the harvest was a community affair, farmers, women and children all shared their labour, and assisted others to complete the task of food production before winter.

Nos Calan Gaeaf, In Wales the first day of winter is called Calan Gaeaf: Winter Season And the night before is Nos Calan Gaeaf: Winter Night or Ysbrydnos: Spirit Night. It is the year’s most frightening time. Spirits are abroad. People avoid churchyards, stiles, and crossroads; since spirits are thought to gather there.

Coelcerth, (Bonfire) people built a fire and placed white stones with their name or mark in it. When the flames are out one person raises a cry and everyone runs away so they will not be the last person there.

The person whose stone is missing the next morning would die within the year. Finding the stone is good luck.

Eiddiorwg dalen, (Ivy Leaves)  Grind a few leaves of ivy, and this will give you the power to say hags. Boys should cut 10 ivy leaves, throw away 1 and put the rest under his pillow before he sleeps. A girl should take a wild rose grown into a hoop, creep through it 3 times, cut it in silence, and go to bed with it under her pillow.

Teiliwr, (Tailors) In Glamorgan tailors are associated with witchcraft, I know this as I was born there :) and these people cast spells on you if you didn't buy a suit from them :)-

< Glamorgan, Pontypridd, South Wales is the Druid religious centre of Wales marked by a stone circle and an altar on a hill. The stones are people changed to that form by the power of a witch.
