Often seen as creepy people, gravediggers do just that

They dig graves.

It was backbreaking work, outside in all weather, hot and freezing cold, and a most solitary profession.

 

In addition to digging the actual graves, gravediggers tend to funeral plots and handle upkeep of tombstones and mausoleums.
