Aberfan Disaster, Aberfan Today

MemorialThis sort of thing happened regularly in the Welsh valleys. The waste tips above the old collieries were notoriously unstable and shamefully neglected; they were slipping and sliding all the time. If the slag heaps never kiiled people thousands have died in the mines.

No-one was prosecuted despite the damming report and only a paltry £500 was paid in compensation for each child. However Judgment day comes for all, and those who were responsible will be judged, and sent to hell !

It is rare these days to see men with black lines on the backs of their hands, coughing and cursing the dust. And the village is clean once more with the rivers crystal clear.

The tips have vanished or been grassed over. The valley is green once again.

Forgotten ? Never, etched in the mind forever more..
