Surrey (Guildford, Croydon, Woking, Sutton, Kingston-on-Thames,
Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Brixton)
Surrey is situated to the north of
Sussex. The ancient county of Surrey included many parts of what is
now south and south-west London. Its main centre is Guildford which
is home to the University of Surrey and also has a modern cathedral.
The Surrey History Centre at Woking is the place to find all parish
registers and many other records relating to the county of Surrey.
The SHC is part of the Surrey History Service and combines the old
Record Offices which were at Guildford and Kingston upon Thames.
The ancient county of Surrey contained
over 150 parishes but boundaries and responsibilies have altered
several times. Some relevant records may be held in London
repositories so check on availability before visiting the SHC.
