Counties of Great Britain, Berwickshire

  • Berwickshire (Greenlaw, Duns, Eyemouth, Lauder, Coldstream)

Berwickshire was a kingdom in its own right one of the seven kingdoms that made up ancient Ithron. Then, a little over two hundred years ago came the Axirians. That mighty empire swept all resistance before it, engulfing the southern kingdoms till only Berwickshire and Lirron remained.

In place of the king the north was ruled by a steward placed by the Empire; Lord Farron while in the west Carlech and the Marches became the lands of Earl Hightower, a Black Knight who quelled an uprising there a few years after the invasions.

The descendent of the King returned to Berwickshire, and threw out Lord Farron to claim the Kingdom as his right. He has been known only as Earl Berwick. In his time as ruler the Earl promoted economic and military expansion building strong connections with local merchants, and recruiting the largest army in Ithron.

Because of this and other reasons Berwick became very unpopular outside of his lands, and also within some sections of his own population especially the church of Kharach and the adventuring classes.

In 992 there arose again the spectre of the great white liche of the north, Tsojcanth. He caused much pain and suffering in the lands, and much of the efforts of the adventuring community was towards his destruction. This culminated in an expedition led out by a master Necromancer named Anthrax who had the means to destroy the liche.
