Celebrations

Window display (c) www.medievaltravel.co.ukYou may ask what they had to celebrate in medieval times, life was hard, living was difficult. However Medieval celebrations revolved around feast days that had pagan origins and were based on ancient agricultural celebrations. They celebrated when certain crops should be planted or harvested.

What can you do in winter? The Medieval People had the biggest feasts during the dreariest times of the year.

From December though to January was transformed into a holiday for all the peasant workers.

The Lord of the land gave food, drink to servants, and despite the poor living conditions, houses were decorated with things like holly, with large "Yule Logs" burning on the fire. People exchanged gifts like eggs, chickens, cloths they made.
