The Canterbury Tales (Geoffrey Chaucer)

Canterbury CathedralGeoffrey Chaucer (1343 October 25, 1400) was an English author, poet, philosopher. Geoffrey wrote many tales but is best remembered for his work "The Canterbury Tales".

Geoffrey Chaucer was one of the first authors to show his artistic use of the English language, rather than French or Latin.

The Canterbury Tales, is the story of a group of 30 people who travel as pilgrims to Canterbury. The pilgrims, tell stories to each other to kill time while they travel to Canterbury.

Chaucer intended that each pilgrim should tell 2 tales on the way to Canterbury and 2 tales on the way back.

Since the printing press had not yet been invented, these tales have been passed down by Scholars but little is known about the order they were written.
