Viviparous Lizard

The Viviparous Lizard also known as the common lizard, this lizard is the small brown lizard most frequently seen on commons, embankments and sea cliffs around the British Isles.

It is widespread throughout Europe and its range extends into the Arctic circle. Typical adult size is approx 15cm and coloration is a shade of brown with patterns of spots or stripes.

Unusual colour variations, everything from yellow through shades of green to jet black.

The Common Lizard likes open sunny places, hence is usually found in dry situations although it is strangely a great fan of wet heaths.
It feeds mostly on spiders and insects, and gives birth to tiny jet black live young in August.

Common Lizards are protected by law in Great Britain against being injured or traded in any way.
